To be booked if you are at or past 36 weeks gestation and this is your first labour preparation acupuncture appointment. Acupuncture during the final weeks of pregnancy has been shown to reduce rates of medical induction, intervention and caesarean, result in faster and less painful labour, and reduce levels of anxiety. Ideally starting at 36 weeks, receive weekly acupuncture until you go into labour.

Most of the appointment is spent mapping out what’s going on in your body and choosing points, then resting with fine needles in place for a stretch — sometimes with heat, cups or electrical stimulation — and you leave with a sense of what was treated and whether more sessions make sense.
