The lymphatic system clears away infection and keeps your body's fluids in balance. If it's not working properly, fluid builds in your tissues and causes swelling, called lymphedema. Other lymphatic system problems can include infections, blockages, cancer, pregnancy and hypertension.
Unlike traditional massage that utilizes downward pressure into the tissues, lymphatic drainage is very light and works on the lymphatic system that is directly below the skin. Your therapist will "pump" the fluids to their proper waste channels to be excreted and digested by the body.
