I have been practicing as an RMT since graduating from massage school in Vancouver in 2012. I grew up in Ontario, received my bachelor degree in Physical Education and Health from the University of Toronto, moved to BC in 2009, and I haven’t looked back. I moved to Vernon in the summer of 2016 with my young family so we could play in the lakes and explore the mountains.
My passion for massage lies both in women's health and pediatrics. I practice both of these at Creekside as well as supervise students at the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy during the practical component of these specific subsets of massage in their education. I have taken courses in pre and post natal massage and breast massage. Pre and post natal (no matter how far past child birth you are) brings all new stresses to the body, and I like to focus on these areas by using a therapeutic approach to a relaxation massage to both target specific areas of pain as well as bring an overall feeling of well being. Incorporating both the abdomen and breasts into a massage can at first seem like unexpected areas of the body to work on; however, work done here can help with back pain, help with better breathing, improve c-section scarring or other scarring, and can help bring a full feeling of connection to the body.
I have also taken post graduate courses in pediatrics to work with soft tissue and injury related pain, as well as anxiety and other mental health related pain. I have also taken courses in working with children with autism and have been an instructor in infant massage. It can truly be amazing how much tension children can build up within their bodies that massage can help release.
As part of every massage, I like to give tips and techniques that can be used at home, by caregivers or by children themselves, to help ease this tension on a daily basis.
