Alison graduated from Dalhousie University in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in
Occupational Therapy after completing her first degree in Disability Studies. Since
graduation, Alison has continued to practice in a holistic, client centered manner
utilizing her knowledge and skills in physical and mental health to advocate for
individuals, and assisting clients to gain or regain function in their daily lives.
Alison has worked in physical health and mental health settings throughout her
career; she finds the most reward working in home health/ community settings
helping individuals to identify the barriers that are preventing them from attaining
their goals. She helps clients find the "just right"; fit to feel success. Alison believes
that through remediation, adaptive strategies, challenging our beliefs and learning
how to self-regulate we can accomplish our small and very ambitious goals.
Regardless of where she has worked she has always returned to home/community
health because that is where we have to function in the world. Alison helps
individuals to get back to the “doing” to feel comfortable being and becoming the
individuals we want to be.
Alison feels honoured to be part of any individual’s live, whether you are
experiencing a disabling injury, chronic disease, developmental disability, or a new
stage in life.
Alison has a passion for life-long learning and has demonstrated this by
continuously upgrading her skills, taking courses and seeking mentorship to ensure
she is meeting best practice standards.
