TMJ pain or TMD is a pain condition affecting the jaw joint and muscles. Physiotherapy can be an effective treatment to manage this pain. Physiotherapy treatment for TMD may include techniques such as postural education and exercises, intra-oral manual therapy, buccal massage and self management techniques. TMD treatment can also assist with tension headaches (often involving the jaw), neck and shoulder pain. It is also not uncommon for TMD pain to present alongside pelvic floor dysfunction or pain.
