Acupuncture is a key component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It involves the insertion of very thin needles through skin at strategic points on body. Acupuncture needles are thin and smooth, sterile, single-use, disposable to a labeled sharp container. It is most commonly used to treat pain. It is usually not painful, and most people feel little to no discomfort. Someone might feel a slight tingling or ache when the needle is inserted, but it is usually less painful than getting a shot. In average, the gauge of acupuncture needle is only 1/6 of a hypodermic injection needle, so pain from acupuncture needles is much weaker, and the pain goes away very quickly. The needles are left in for around 20 - 30 minutes. There is usually no discomfort when the needles are removed.
