Ashiya Sequiera
My name is Ashiya Khan-Sequeira. I am an Indo-Fijian Canadian, born in the tropical islands of Fiji.I immigrated to British Columbia with my family at the age of eight. I am proficient in Hindi and English.
For over 20 years, I have had the privilege of supporting individuals and couples in their journeys of self-awareness, personal growth, and healing. My work is grounded in an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed framework. I draw from my Adlerian training and integrate the principles of client-centred counselling through mutual respect, encouragement, and collaboration.

I take a holistic approach to counselling with a strong focus on the mind body connection and overall wellness. I have training in somatic therapy and often work from a bottom up approach, supporting clients in understanding how experiences are held in the body and nervous system and how this awareness can support regulation, safety, and healing.
My ongoing postgraduate training allows me to integrate a range of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Lifespan Integration, Mindfulness based approaches, Brief and Solution Focused Therapy, and Expressive and Art Therapy.
I also provide couples counselling from an attachment based framework and have Level 2 training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. In my work with couples, I support partners in recognizing attachment patterns they may be reenacting in their current relationship. Together, we explore these patterns, identify unmet needs, and work toward building healthier, more meaningful emotional connections rather than remaining stuck in unhelpful relational cycles
As a woman of colour, I am deeply committed to supporting the healing and empowerment of racialized and marginalized communities. I strive to provide a safe, nurturing, and respectful environment where clients can feel heard, seen, and understood. I work from a culturally responsive lens, view each person’s culture and lived experience as a strength, and specialize in supporting individuals and families impacted by intergenerational trauma. I am also a proud ally to the LGBTQ2+ community and am committed to providing affirming and inclusive care.
I work with concerns including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, past or recent trauma, racialized trauma, grief and loss, family and relationship challenges, as well as self-esteem and identity development. I believe counselling can be a powerful tool in fostering hope and helping individuals discover their inner strengths and resources.
Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy unwinding with Netflix, staying active through running and yoga, and spending meaningful time with my partner of over 22 years and our three children, ranging from young adults to a teenager.
