Ashton joins our clinic as a Physiotherapist Assistant, bringing a strong academic foundation with a Master’s of Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto, preceded by a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from McMaster University. Passionate about empowering patients through movement, Ashton is dedicated to helping people return to—and continue doing—the activities they love. Fluent in Cantonese, he enjoys being able to connect with patients in their native language and help make their rehab journey as comfortable as possible.
Ashton’s diverse experience is a cornerstone of his practice. He has worked extensively with a wide range of clients, from providing strength and conditioning coaching and sideline therapy for varsity athletes to supporting seniors and individuals with cardiovascular conditions through rehab programs. This background, combined with previous experience as a certified personal trainer, has established exercise and active rehabilitation as a central tenet of his treatment philosophy. He expertly designs personalized rehab programs that are both effective and engaging, ensuring patients feel confident and motivated throughout their recovery journey.
Taking a holistic and evidence-based approach, Ashton focuses on identifying the root cause of an injury to develop targeted treatment plans that promote optimal recovery, improve function, and prevent future issues. He skillfully blends manual therapy techniques with tailored exercise prescription to meet each individual's unique needs and goals.
While Ashton isn't in the clinic, he loves to travel the world and experience a wide range of experiences and human connection. This passion culminated in completing a 6-week physiotherapy internship in rural Tanzania, enriching his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. An avid sports enthusiast himself, he enjoys basketball, soccer, and ultimate frisbee, and is personally working towards qualifying for the Boston Marathon.

**Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) Treatment** Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is a common inner ear condition that causes brief episodes of dizziness or spinning sensations (vertigo), often triggered by changes in head position such as lying down, rolling in bed, or looking up. BPPV occurs when small calcium crystals in the inner ear become displaced and move into the semicircular canals, disrupting the body’s balance signals. Physiotherapy treatment for BPPV involves a thorough assessment by a Registered Physiotherapist trained in vestibular rehabilitation. The physiotherapist will perform specific positional tests to determine whether BPPV is present and identify which inner ear canal is affected. Treatment typically includes a series of gentle, guided head and body movements known as **canalith repositioning maneuvers**, which are designed to move the displaced crystals back to their proper location within the inner ear. These maneuvers are safe, non-invasive, and often provide rapid relief from symptoms. Physiotherapists may also provide education and, if needed, additional vestibular exercises to help restore balance, reduce dizziness, and improve confidence with movement. Treatment plans are individualized to each patient’s symptoms and functional goals to support a safe return to normal daily activities.

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) physiotherapy focuses on the treatment of jaw pain and dysfunction affecting the temporomandibular joint and surrounding muscles. The TMJ connects the jaw to the skull and is responsible for movements required for speaking, chewing, and yawning. When the joint or muscles become irritated or dysfunctional, it can cause pain, stiffness, and difficulty opening or moving the jaw. Common symptoms of TMJ disorders include jaw pain, clicking or popping sounds, headaches, facial tension, ear discomfort, and limited jaw movement. These symptoms may be caused by teeth grinding or clenching, stress, poor posture, injury, or muscle imbalance involving the jaw and neck. During a physiotherapy assessment, the physiotherapist evaluates jaw mobility, muscle tension, neck movement, and posture to identify contributing factors. Treatment may include manual therapy, soft tissue release, therapeutic exercises, postural correction, and education on self-management strategies. TMJ physiotherapy aims to reduce pain, restore normal jaw movement, improve muscle balance, and help patients return to comfortable daily activities such as eating, speaking, and sleeping.
Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) appointments are strictly intended for clients who have already been assessed by a physiotherapist and have an established treatment plan in place for an existing injury. If you are experiencing a **new injury or a new concern that has not yet been assessed**, you must book an appointment with a **physiotherapist first**. This ensures you receive a proper assessment, diagnosis, and an appropriate treatment plan before any ongoing care is provided by a PTA. If you're unsure which appointment to book, please contact our clinic and we will be happy to guide you.
