Cheryl is a registered physiotherapist who received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto in 1993, having been introduced to the profession following a serious knee injury and subsequent surgeries in highschool. She started her career at Carleton University's Sports Therapy Clinic prior to opening Cooper Physio Clinic in October 1996. Cheryl is proud to be able to treat the rural residents of her home community and enjoys a special interest in Sports Medicine and total joint rehab. Her continuing education has included all orthopaedic short courses, kinesiotaping, vestibular rehabilitation and Mulligan techniques. She is proud to have shared her 30+ years of clinical experience as a clinical educator for countless Canadian and International physiotherapy students and co-operative education students over her career. In 2023, Cheryl received a total knee replacement and has used that experience to help guide her care of total joint patients
A sixth generation native of Metcalfe, Cheryl lives with her husband Hugh McEwen, grown children Kate and Stuart and a menagerie of pets on Heather Crest Dairy Farm. A busy Mom, she also continues to play hockey and is a singer/musician performing at various local events. Cheryl has proudly coached both competitive fastball and hockey in the community for over 40 years and uses her knowledge of sport to augment her physiotherapy care. Her volunteer work in the community includes Past President of Metcalfe District Hockey Association and current President of Metcalfe Agricultural Society.
