BScPT, MSc, Parkinson's Warrior Instructor
Cheryl completed her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of Western Ontario in 1990. She started work at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario gaining experience in all areas of physical therapy. In 1993 she moved to England to pursue her specialisation in neurological physiotherapy and has been a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy for the past 25 years. Cheryl’s work in the UK has taken her from acute neurological wards to specialist neurological rehab and long term care units. She has run her own domiciliary physiotherapy service in London, England for the past 18 years facilitating each client’s recovery and assisting them to regain their quality of life and manage their long term condition.
Over the past several years, spurred on by the burgeoning evidence of the benefits of fitness and resistance training exercise for people living with neurological conditions, Cheryl’s physiotherapy practice has taken on a new focus. She completed her MSc in Applied Exercise for Health at St George’s University of London in 2014 and her MSc research was published in Disability and Health Journal in January 2017. Cheryl has continued to retrain herself in the kind of exercise that is required to optimize neuroplastic recovery in neurological conditions and has been running exercise classes for stroke and Parkinson’s populations for the past few years. Cheryl has supported a creative dance class for people with acquired brain injury and stroke and is now bringing her expertise back to Canada with a move to Vancouver.
Cheryl is also a professional actress and voiceover artist. She shares her busy life with her husband and black and white cat and is looking forward to being closer to her aging parents who live on Vancouver Island.
