A Pelvic Health Physiotherapist has been specifically trained in the assessment and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunctions. The initial assessment will involve completing a detailed questionnaire to understand the condition and symptoms you are experiencing. The physical exam includes an assessment of the muscles, ligaments, connective tissues of the pelvic and surrounding areas. With your consent, an internal vaginal assessment will be performed, as this is the gold standard for assessing the muscles of the pelvic floor. However, if an internal assessment is not well tolerated – there are many educational and external manual techniques that can provide relief.

There are many reasons why individuals may see a pelvic floor physiotherapist, some include: incontinence, weakened pelvic muscles, urinary urgency/frequency, pelvic main, pressure in the pelvis, sexual pain, menstrual pain, post partum difficulties, diastasis recti and pelvic organ prolapse.
