Born and raised in Whistler, BC, Dr. Chanel Smythe is proud to serve the community she calls home, bringing together training in naturopathic medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and international clinical experience spanning China and Nepal.
She holds a Master of Science and a degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle WA, as well as a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in New Westminster BC. She is dual licensed as both a Naturopathic Doctor and a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner.
Chanel's clinical practicum in Chinese medicine included shifts at Harborview Medical Center, and she completed clinical rotations in China at hospitals in both Shanghai and Chengdu. Following this, she worked in rural Nepal for several months, providing acupuncture and Chinese medicine services to the remote community of Kogate and surrounding villages through the Acupuncture Relief Project.
As part of her naturopathic clinical training, she completed externships at Empower Health Clinic and Positive Living BC. Positive Living BC serves HIV-positive and underserved populations throughout Vancouver.
Dr. Chanel maintains a general practice with a focus on women's health, hormonal imbalances, fatigue and burnout, concussion and traumatic brain injury, autoimmune diseases, and sports injuries and pain management.
Dr. Chanel holds certifications in Pharmaceutical Prescriptive Authority, IV Therapy, and Advanced Injection Therapies, including prolotherapy and neural therapy. She has completed a variety of additional advanced training programs, including a five-level series in clinical neurology through the Carrick Institute and a six-level training program in the Tan Lineage Balance Method of Acupuncture.
Dr. Chanel believes in collaborative, evidence-informed care that is tailored to each patient's unique health goals, lifestyle, and circumstances. She is passionate about helping patients understand their health, address the root causes of illness, and build sustainable foundations for long-term wellness.
