Dr. Rashell Allen
Background/Experience:
Throughout my training, I have had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, adults, and families in school, hospital, and community clinic settings.
Prior to graduate school, I worked on several research projects where I gained experience conducting psychological assessments and structured clinical interviews. In graduate school, I have had the opportunity to gain valuable skills and practice working with children, youth, and adults. Through my practicums and residency with the CPS-accredited Edmonton Cross-Specialty Consortium, I have conducted psychoeducational and comprehensive assessments involving attention, mental health, personality, memory, and learning. As well, I gained valuable experience providing individual counselling to children, adolescents, and adults, especially those experiencing anxiety, health anxiety, depressive symptoms, grief and loss, and coping with difficult emotions.

I specialize in research related to growth and resilience, particularly with first responders, police, military members, and veterans, which I integrate into my clinical practice. My current dissertation reviews the resilience and well-being support services for these members, as well as reviewed a workshop that was provided to a unit within the Canadian Armed Forces.
I am passionate about working with children and adolescents, as this has been a major part of my training throughout my Masters and PhD. I am honoured to work with each individual and parent to meet their goals in a collaborative way. I have been lucky to also gain experience working with adults throughout my residency, which also prepares me to work with individuals as they navigate adulthood, aging, illness, and life stress.

About Me:
I am grateful for all the experiences I have had and the people that have crossed my path throughout my training in Edmonton. Specifically, I have worked with the Eating Disorders Program at the University of Alberta Hospital, St. Albert Catholic School division, and Clinical Services at the University of Alberta. I am starting a part-time career working at the Cross Cancer Institute with Psychosocial Spiritual Resources, where I completed a majority of my residency training. Each patient and client I have interacted with has made me the person and clinician I am today. I am forever grateful to you all.
With regard to my personal life, I am blessed to have an incredible husband and support system of family and friends across Alberta and Saskatchewan. I have always loved the outdoors, and even though the prairies hold a special place in my heart, I love the Alberta landscape - the forests and mountains have won me over! In the summer we love to camp and spend our time at our cabin with family. I especially love going for walks, and reading outdoors. In the winter, I enjoy slowing down, still going for walks and runs - I need to keep our dog happy! - and reading cozied up indoors. I look forward to starting my next chapter, wrapping up my PhD, and working with more incredible clients along the way!
