Dr. Shaomei Sarah Shen is a registered Acupuncturist, a registered Massage Therapist, Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (DTCM), and MD (China). She is member of the College and Association of Acupuncturist of Alberta (CAAA) and has been appointed to its Conducts and Competency Committee.
Dr. Shen’s journey in holistic health care began in 1987 when she graduated from Taishan Medical University in Shandong Province, China. After five years as a resident doctor at the Qingdao Cancer Institute, Dr Shen was promoted to doctor-in-charge. In 2000, after advanced training at Shanghai’s Fudan University, Dr. Shen achieved her goal as a cancer specialist, receiving her license as an Oncologist. During this time she co-authored two books: “888 Questions and Answers About Cancer” and “The Prevention of Cancer.” Soon after, Dr. Shen was promoted to an associate chief physician at Qingdao People’s Hospital. She worked there as an oncologist until 2005, when she immigrated to Canada.
As a new resident of Canada, Dr. Shen again dedicated herself to study and work. In 2009, she graduated from the Professional Institute of Massage Therapists and became a registered massage therapist in the Massage Therapist Association of Alberta (MTAA). In 2012, she graduated from the Calgary College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture and, in 2013, became a registered acupuncturist in the CAAA. An avid learner, Dr Shen continually upgrades her professional practice. In 2013 and 2014 she travelled to Beijing to learn the one-needle acupuncture technique and the advanced acupuncture technique focusing on the pulse.
Dr. Shen is a holistic health care practitioner. She expertly combines Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. For each client, Dr. Shen performs the Eight Principal diagnosis which analyses: the yang and yin, the superficial and deep, the cold and heat, and the deficiency and excess. She also incorporates the Four Ways diagnostic methodology: observation, auscultation and olfaction, inquiry, and pulse evaluation. Due to her thorough examinations and treatments, Dr. Shen has achieved an excellent reputation among her clients and colleagues.
