Dr. Shenk grew up in Vanderhoof, and has been involved in sports, outdoor activities, and work since a young age. He was inspired to become a chiropractor as a child after seeing the effects of chiropractic care in helping his father overcome a chronic work injury as well as benefiting personally from chiropractic care after numerous basketball and mountain biking related injuries. Dr. Shenk started saving for Chiropractic college at age 12, initially by mowing lawns in the summer before working in many summer jobs including landscaping, working on the local mountain bike park, working in a logging shop, then spending the summer after high school at mt milligan on a 12 and 2 shift.
Dr. Shenk put himself through post secondary schooling at UNBC through working the summers in construction, roofing, diamond drilling, and truck driving. He worked during his bachelor's degree as a genetics and statistics tutor and lab instructor, while volunteering at the peer counseling center and captaining an intramural basketball team. He then moved to Portland, Oregon for his Doctorate of Chiropractic, thankful to be accepted one semester early into the program. Here he worked as a tutor and as a gym custodian to make ends meet while completing both his bachelor's degree and doctorate concurrently. He completed his preceptorship at a downtown Portland pro bono clinic, serving the local unhoused, uninsured, and queer communities.
Since moving back to Vanderhoof in 2018, he has enjoyed providing quality chiropractic care to the people of the Nechako area, while getting back into mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, and snowboarding. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and gardening, and is a proud sponsor of the local ski hill and a local softball team. Dr. Shenk believes in promoting health through regular exercise, spending quality time with loved ones, ideally outdoors, living sustainably, and investing in his community. He strives to lead by example in these areas and is passionate about helping others both at and outside of his work.
