Eleanor McAlpine, RCC
If you’ve spent much of your life tending to others. as a child who never got to be a kid, a professional, a parent, a partner, a caregiver, you may find yourself having trouble pacing yourself, saying “no” or understanding what self-care means. My clients often come to me during seasons of transition: when life looks “fine” on the outside, but inside they’re carrying old grief, chronic anxiety, or a persistent sense that something is missing.

You don’t have to have experienced a major “event” to be affected by trauma. Many of my clients carry the impacts of chronic stress, emotional neglect, perfectionism, codependence, or growing up in high-expectation or high-control environments. These experiences may not have made headlines but they shaped how you see yourself, relate to others, and tolerate emotion.
My approach is gentle but structured. I’ll help you identify the strategies that once protected you but may now be limiting your life. We’ll work at a pace that honors your nervous system, not just your to-do list.
Our first session is about getting to know you: your history, your hopes, your hesitation, and what’s brought you here now. Together, we’ll clarify what healing looks like for you.
Sessions may involve reflection, storytelling, somatic grounding, creative activities, or quiet space to think aloud. Some clients come weekly for a season of change, others space sessions out over time.
I work with people of all ages: children, pre-teens, teens, young adults, mid-life folks and seniors who are navigating the complex and often painful transitions of life: loss, retirement, role shifts, identity crises, or simply the quiet ache of wondering, "Who am I now?"
My counselling practice offers a steady, compassionate space to explore what’s surfacing: trauma from the past, current emotional distress, or the simple yet profound question: What’s next for me?
My Approach to Counselling
I believe therapy should be a place where you feel both supported and gently challenged. My work is relational, creative, and rooted in evidence-based methods. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), somatic practices, grief work, art-based approaches, and narrative therapy, adapting the tools to meet your unique story, personality, and goals.
I also use play and expressive therapy for adults, based on the understanding that many of our earliest wounds and most powerful healing experiences happen outside of words. And many traumatic life experiences are remembered outside of the regular narrative memory. That’s why we have gaps in our memories when trying to recall something that happened. This creative work is especially useful for trauma and grief, where talk therapy alone can sometimes fall short.
Therapy is not about fixing you. It’s about accompanying you as you rediscover your voice, values, and self-trust. It includes giving you valuable, up-to-date information about the nervous system and proven methods of building capacity so that you can be more effective and free in your daily life.
Examples of situations addressed in therapy:
- Grief or loss (recent or unresolved)
- Anxiety, stress, and burnout
- Chronic illness or caregiving fatigue
- Life stage transitions (retirement, empty nesting, identity loss)
- Processing difficult family dynamics or relational trauma
- Emotional fallout from spiritual disillusionment or high-control groups
- Quiet trauma (not a single event, but a lifetime of emotional suppression)
- Adults exploring creativity, meaning, or values in later life
My clients include active and retired professionals, artists, faith leaders, educators, helpers, and lifelong caregivers. People who’ve spent a lifetime showing up for others, and are now ready to show up for themselves. Some of my other clients are at the beginnings of their journeys. They want to design a life that doesn’t lead to burnout and disillusionment. Many are preparing for marriage or parenthood and want to bring their best selves to their new roles.
My Training and Credentials
I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling from Kairos University and am awaiting my license from both the BCACC (RCC) and CCPA (CCC), I also hold the following specialized certifications and training relevant to couples and trauma work:
- Written Exposure Therapy (WET) – an evidence-based protocol for trauma and grief, especially useful when individual trauma impacts the couple dynamic
- Complex Trauma Certification Levels I & II
- Ongoing professional development in attachment, and relational neurobiology
I also meet regularly with a trusted clinical supervisor and participate in consultation groups, which helps me offer ethical, well-supported care while staying curious and current in the field.
If you’ve carried something heavy for a long time, or if you’re quietly aching for more clarity, meaning, or rest, therapy might be the space you need.
I offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit. Whether you’re 18 or 78, you are welcome here.
