Heather Barrett

Heather finds genuine joy working with a client-centered approach and supporting people to feel present and empowered in their lives. She has supported individuals navigating many different challenges including stress, anxiety, self-doubt, feelings of overwhelm, feeling stuck, boundary issues, abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, gender-based violence, childhood trauma, life transitions, sexual identity, addictions, discrimination, grief and loss, and aging.

Heather is aware of how hard it can be for many people to engage in counselling. She strives to create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where a person can come work with whatever may be feeling challenging in their lives at that moment. Drawing on her training and love for Expressive Arts Therapy, mindfulness, and somatic experiencing-based work, Heather believes there is restorative and transformational power at the heart of all these modalities. She understands they are available for all people, and do not require prior experience or skill.

Heather believes wholeheartedly that anti-oppression, anti-racism, social justice and decolonization are integral to trauma-informed care and she is dedicated to work with a trauma-informed lens. She deeply believes in helping people connect with their personal strengths, creating space for her clients to discover their authentic voice and open to new creative possibilities. She helps people discover their own ability to heal and move towards a more loving, peaceful and joyful way of being in their lives.

Her practice is rooted in her love of nature, the beauty and transformative power of creativity, and the belief that we are all connected. She believes that in each of our unique and authentic ways, when we heal ourselves, we heal each other. She is currently working with people 15 years and older and she will be honoured to work with you.

Direct billing is not available for Heather's services. You will be provided a receipt to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. You are encouraged to confirm your insurance covers MTC (Master Therapeutic Counsellor) prior to your first session as we cannot do this for you.
