Born and raised in Central Ontario, Jacalyn was a dedicated multi-sport athlete throughout her
youth. At a time when professional opportunities in women’s sports were limited, she shifted
her focus toward a career in Sports Medicine. Her passion for high-performance sport led her to
McMaster University, where she gained her first experience in the field as a student Strength &
Conditioning Coach during her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology.
Inspired by the work of both Athletic Therapists and Physiotherapists, and intrigued by the
complementary scopes of each profession, Jacalyn pursued dual training to integrate both into
her clinical practice. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Therapy from the University
of Manitoba and later completed her Master of Science in Physiotherapy at the University of
Alberta, all while working as a Strength & Conditioning Coach at Winsport.
Jacalyn spent the last nine years at the University of Lethbridge Sports Medicine Clinic, where
she treated a wide range of athletic and active populations. She recently moved to Calgary to
contribute to research on sport-related concussions at the University of Calgary, further
deepening her expertise in sports injury and recovery.
In addition to her academic and clinical background, Jacalyn is certified through Acupuncture
Canada to provide medical acupuncture, and is authorized by the College of Physiotherapists of
Alberta to perform spinal manipulations, as well as male and female internal pelvic floor
examinations.
She uses her extensive knowledge of human movement and rehabilitation to help patients of all
backgrounds reach their goals—whether that’s recovering from injury, improving performance,
or maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.
**What's your treatment philosophy?**
My approach starts with active listening. I believe patients often have the answers—they know
their bodies better than anyone. It’s my job to listen carefully to what they’re feeling and what
their body is telling me, then use that information to guide effective, individualized treatment.
**What are you interested in outside of work?**
Outside of work, I love anything that challenges me physically or mentally and teaches me
something new. You’ll often find me hiking, biking, running, working out, painting, renovating
my house, practicing my French—or out on the field playing soccer with my team, the Hungry
Hippos!
**What are your areas of expertise and interest?**
I specialize in complex injuries involving multiple systems, and I’m especially passionate about
helping patients who feel like they’ve exhausted other options. I often work with individuals
who haven’t found success with previous treatments and are ready to dig deeper. My goal is
always to support those who are truly committed to getting better.
**How do you take care of your body/prevent injuries/etc.?**
I’m proud to say I’m the oldest player on my soccer team—and still one of the fastest! Staying
healthy and injury-free is no accident. I prioritize the fundamentals: staying current with the
latest health and performance research, eating clean, getting 8+ hours of sleep each night, and
surrounding myself with a strong support network. I also make time for regular check-ins with a
mental health professional and keep my alcohol consumption low—did you know the latest
Canadian guidelines recommend no more than 2 drinks per week?
Taking care of your body means taking care of your whole self: physically, mentally, and
emotionally.
