By applying specially formed glass cups to the body, your Acupuncturist allows the body to be gently pulled into the glass and help increase circulation of blood, energy and lymphatic fluid. This ancient healing therapy is often used to aid in digestion, inflammation, immunity and a variety of aches and pains. This practice of healing is used by celebrities and professional athletes around the world to help them relax and recover from daily stressors. Many claim this therapy feels like a reverse deep tissue massage, instead of pushing deep into the muscles, the cups pull them out! Your Acupuncturist may also perform Gua Sha with a specially formed tool that is used to purposefully create light bruising on the skin known as petechiae or in Chinese Medicine, “Sha”. This Sha is the visual effect of the scrapping performed on the skin to help the body release stagnations of blood which aids in pain, stiffness, fever, chill, cough, wheeze, nausea and vomiting. Modern research shows the petechiae or Sha produce an anti inflammatory and immune protective effect that persists for days following a single Gua sha treatment.
A follow-up visit will consist of a brief history of the complaint progression followed by treatment. Any questions about treatment or alternative treatment methods will be addressed.
