Joanna was drawn to become a massage therapist because of its hands on proactive approach to health and wellness. After completing her Bachelor of Science at the University of Victoria in 2002, Joanna then completed the 3000 hour massage therapy training at Vancouver’s West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 2005. She presently practices her massage therapy in Kitsilano, Vancouver.
Joanna’s in depth knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy and kinesiology as well as her caring and enthusiastic nature is key in effectively treating many conditions. Utilizing a proactive approach and various modalities such as myofascial, trigger point release and joint mobilizations, Joanna effectively treats each individual’s situation. Her goal is to strike a balance between mobility, stability, alignment and strength to restore optimal function. Thus you will always leave with homework in the form of either stretching or strengthening exercises to help facilitate, maintain and even gain greater healing between visits.
Joanna takes special interest in athletic massage, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, pregnancy (pre natal and post natal) massage, visceral therapy, exercise and stretch therapy.
Post degree training has included:
LAST – Ligamentous Articular Strain Technique for the lower body
Osteopathy – Muscle Energy Technique
Visceral Therapy
Women’s health care – pre and post natal care, non-invasive pelvic floor rehabilitation and visceral alignment
During her time in massage therapy school Joanna worked as a personal trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. She also continued to enjoy rowing, running and hiking as well as recreationally playing golf in the summer and skiing in the winter. To this day she can still be found enjoying these activities along with sharing her passion for sport and movement with her boys in Vancouver.
