John was born and raised in St. John’s where he completed a BSc (Honours) in Geophysics at Memorial University in 2005 and after 4 years in the Oil and Gas sector decided to change careers undertaking the Masters of Science in Physiotherapy program at Dalhousie University in 2010.
After graduation from the MScPT program John’s early career was spent in Calgary, Alberta affording him the opportunity to access substantial continuing education, leading to formal training in Movement Impairment Syndromes, upper and lower extremity advanced course work and Spinal Manipulation.
However, John is most passionate about The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT). This well researched method consists primarily of targeted education, exercise and manual therapy with a focus on patient empowerment, leading to improved long term outcomes. John has completed an MDT residency in Austin, Texas, making him the only person in the province to hold a Diploma in MDT. John has also been an assistant instructor for many MDT courses sharing his skills and passion for this method of treating spine and extremity conditions with other Physiotherapists and Chiropractors in both Canada and the United States.
Most recently John has been a guest lecturer at both the Dalhousie University School of Physiotherapy and Memorial University Faculty of Medicine.
John spends much of his free time outdoors, golfing, hiking or mountain biking. He also an avid photographer, pool player and musician (guitarist / vocalist).
