Joscelyn Wiseman, M.A., RP
Many of the ways we relate to ourselves, others, and the world begin long before we realize it. Experiences such as trauma, emotionally unpredictable relationships, or growing up in a dysfunctional family system can shape how we cope, connect, and make sense of ourselves. These patterns often develop as understandable ways of adapting to, protecting ourselves from, or making sense of difficult experiences. Over time, however, they can leave us feeling stuck, disconnected, or repeating ways of relating that no longer serve us. Therapy offers an opportunity to bring compassionate awareness to these patterns, creating space for greater flexibility, choice, and new possibilities.
I specialize in supporting adults experiencing single-incident and complex trauma, the lasting impacts of emotionally difficult or dysfunctional family systems, and struggles related to perfectionism, chronic self-criticism, shame, and impostor syndrome. I also work with adults who grew up in families affected by addiction or other relational challenges and who are navigating how these experiences continue to influence their sense of self, relationships, and emotional wellbeing.
Many of my clients are thoughtful, capable, and deeply caring individuals who have learned to adapt by being responsible, achieving, caring for others, staying strong, or striving to do things “right.” While these patterns often developed for understandable reasons, they can sometimes contribute to feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from oneself, difficulty setting boundaries, or uncertainty about what it means to live in a way that feels authentic.
Therapy can provide a space to explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion, develop a deeper understanding of yourself, and create new ways of relating to yourself and others.
My approach is grounded in a relational and attachment-informed framework. I believe the therapeutic relationship is an important part of healing and that meaningful change happens through connection, safety, and collaboration. I view therapy as a process of becoming more aware of our thoughts, emotions, body responses, beliefs, and relational patterns so that we can develop greater choice in how we respond to ourselves, others, and the experiences we encounter.
I take a whole-person approach to therapy, integrating mindfulness and nervous system-informed perspectives alongside evidence-based interventions. Together, we will explore the experiences and patterns that have shaped you while also developing practical tools and new ways of responding that support the life and relationships you want to create.
Through therapy, we can develop greater awareness of your thoughts, emotions, body responses, beliefs, and relational patterns. This awareness creates space for greater flexibility, choice, and the ability to respond to yourself and others in ways that feel more aligned with who you are and how you want to live.
Depending on your goals and needs, I integrate:
Relational and attachment-based therapy — exploring how past and present relationships influence your sense of self, emotional experiences, and ways of connecting with others.
Somatic and nervous system-informed approaches — developing awareness of how emotions, stress, and past experiences are experienced in the body and learning ways to support regulation and connection.
Mentalization-informed approaches — strengthening curiosity and understanding of your own thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and the experiences of others.
Parts work — exploring different aspects of yourself, including protective patterns and inner conflicts, with greater compassion and self-understanding.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) — identifying and shifting unhelpful thought patterns while developing practical strategies for managing challenges.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) — building skills related to emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and relationships.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) — a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process and integrate distressing experiences that continue to affect how you feel, think, or respond in the present. When appropriate, EMDR can support healing from traumatic experiences, painful memories, and patterns that feel difficult to shift through insight alone.
My goal is to offer a therapy space where you feel understood, supported, and empowered to explore your experiences at your own pace. Healing is not about changing who you are—it is about developing a more compassionate relationship with yourself, understanding the patterns that have shaped you, and creating new possibilities for how you move through life and relationships.
