Hello, and thank you for reading to learn about me and my approach to physiotherapy.
From a young age I focused my goals on a career in physiotherapy, driven by my enjoyment of many different sports (curling, soccer, skiing, volleyball, running, just to name a few), and an underlying drive to help others. I understand the negative impact is has on your life when you can't participate in the things that matter to you.
After growing up in Ottawa, my undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from McMaster University. I completed my Master of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Toronto in 2013. I've been living and working in Guelph since 2017.
In my physiotherapy practice, I see people of all ages, with various musculoskeletal pain problems. It's important for me to understand the activity and lifestyle goals for each client, as you play an important active role in treatment. This ensures we work towards movement goals that are meaningful for each individual. Assessment and treatment blends evidence-based-practice with client-centered tailoring.
Lately, in my spare time you'll find me laughing and keeping up with my two young children (aged 3 and 1), and our family dog.
The most rewarding part of my workday is seeing my clients return to enjoying the sports and activities that they love!

This treatment session option is booked when there are multiple regions or complexities in the plan of care. More time is allotted to be able to provide quality treatment, exercise prescription and ongoing education to ensure rehabilitation goals are being met in their entirety.
For your first time visit to the clinic for a Physiotherapy Session you will need to book a Physiotherapy Assessment. You will need to complete a standard questionnaire with billing and personal information as well as provide consent to be treated by a Registered Physiotherapist. These appointments are booked for 60 minutes and you will be assessed and treated in that time. Your Registered Physiotherapist will guide you to understand more about your painful condition and show you how you can be involved in your own treatment plan.

This assessment will combine Heather's skills as a Physiotherapist and Clinical Pilates Instructor to improve your performance in everyday life and/or recreational activities. We will take a detailed look at your posture, daily life movements, walking pattern (gait assessment), mobility, flexibility and strength, starting with your core foundation. From here we will come up with a treatment plan which may include a home program (written or online/video), private or group Clinial Pilates classes, or referral to community activities/classes with the guidance and support from a physiotherapist who knows your skills and needs.
This 50 minute class will support your rehabilitation in a fun, full-body workout. NOTE: To attend a class, current clients need a Reassessment (every 3 months), and new clients need a Physiotherapy Stability Assessment.
This 50 minute follow up session will include a review of your treatment goals and home program, and adding new challenges step-by-step with specific feedback on your technique. If booked in the studio, we will use small equipment and the Pilates Reformer to enhance your treatment session.
