Fire cupping is a traditional therapeutic technique often used in Chinese medicine, sometimes alongside acupuncture. It involves creating suction on the skin using glass cups that have had the air inside briefly heated with fire. This suction draws the skin and superficial muscle layer into the cup, stimulating blood flow and promoting healing. Plastic cupping is a modern version of traditional cupping therapy that uses plastic cups and a hand-held suction pump instead of fire to create suction.
