Contemporary medical acupuncture uses similar principles as traditional acupuncture but focuses on improving communication between your nerves and muscles through electro-stimulation. Contemporary medical acupuncture has been shown to improve blood flow, reduce pain input to affected tissues, relax tense muscles, improve muscle activation, and restore joint function as well as improving pain thresholds in individuals with persistent pain, such as fibromyalgia and myofascial pain. If our Bright physiotherapist feels that you would benefit from medical acupuncture, your treatments can be covered through your physiotherapy benefits.
This initial consultation is dedicated to assessing your musculoskeletal concerns, including joint pain, nerve pain, and persistent pain conditions. In your consultation, our physiotherapist will carefully assess how your nervous and musculoskeletal systems function. This may involve you moving through different functional movements to assess your breathing, muscle activation, strength, and flexibility. Our physiotherapist tries her best to consider your pain and comfort levels so as to not exacerbate your symptoms.
