Lakin grew up in Torquay on a grain farm. She is married with 4-year-old twins and a cat.

Lakin attended high school at the Estevan Comp and did her undergrad at the University of Calgary. Lakin is a yoga teacher, Crossfit level 1 coach and mobility specialist.
