Hi! My name is Lynn and I was born and raised in Flanders, Belgium. I graduated at the University of Ghent with a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Psychology. I moved to Vancouver in 2013 and became a Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC soon after.
While studying at the University, my adventurous spirit took me towards a life-changing volunteer opportunity in Africa where I assisted in daily activities and counselling for troubled children and youth. This mentorship role revealed my future steps needed to pursue my goals in the counselling field. The experience in Africa made me realize how I loved to help people, and at the same time appreciate how important self-care is when feeling stressed-out or overwhelmed.
In order to pursue a relationship with my Canadian partner, James, I decided to immigrate to Canada, and learned first-hand the experience of immigration-related psychological struggles which made me aware of the need for support during this life transition. Because of my similar transition experience, I feel that I can empathize strongly with immigrants, and recognize the many struggles that they are going through. I have since focused a portion of my practice on immigrants and their life transitions, as well as people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, high sensitivity (Highly Sensitive Persons), relationship difficulties, and other personal challenges.
Becoming a parent was another big life transition which made me very passionate about supporting other women and their partners during this major life change. In the perinatal mental health field, my main focus is on clients who are in the family planning stage, who are experiencing difficulties trying to conceive (TTC) or are going through explained/unexplained infertility (primary and secondary), and who are in need of pregnancy & postpartum support. In addition to my professional training, I bring personal insight into the challenges of infertility, which helps inform my compassionate and empathetic approach. While every fertility journey is unique, I strive to provide a safe, supportive space where clients can process their experiences, build coping skills, and find meaningful paths forward. I am currently certified through the Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Training as well.
In my practice I have an eclectic approach, which means that I focus on what my clients need. However, I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused-Brief-Therapy (SFBT), and the Bader-Pearson Developmental Model for Couples, all which I frequently utilize during my sessions.
Outside of private practice, I have additional experience in mental health working in two psychiatric departments of a general hospital in Bruges, the BC prisons, and the University of British Columbia/Faculty of Medicine with the focus on self-reflection and self-care with current doctoral students.
In my spare time, you will find me hiking the mountains with my husband, toddler, and Havanese Dog (and friends who are up for an adventure!). Nature is my number one self-care which helps me to recharge my batteries.
