This will be a group of 6-12 participants focused on experiential practice of various strategies and approaches to learning how to ease the nervous system. Taking in to account the challenges that veterans have faced during and after their careers, this group will be appropriate for military veterans and RCMP members with trauma, anxiety, and/ or mood-related issues. The focus will be on learning and practicing methods for coming in to contact with states of calm, developing present-moment awareness, accessing positive emotions, and fostering resilience. Participants are asked to attend, to the extent possible, all six of the 2-hour group meetings, which will be scheduled every two weeks over a 12 week period. As part of the group activities, participants will be asked to talk with the group and in dyads about the practices and any personal challenges associated with them. Participants can expect to come away with both concrete tools they can employ in their lives for easing their nervous systems, as well as the experience of learning and practicing these methods in a supportive environment with other veterans. A screening questionnaire will be required to ensure suitability for this group.
