I have had the blessing of meeting and supporting many families throughout my career, both in hospital and the community. A Breath Alcohol test, is a diagnostic test that measures how much alcohol is on the breath a person breathes out, measured by a breathalyzer device during the test.
Follow up consultations are for those who after having an initial appointment with Melanie, is requiring further support and reassurance or a possible change in plan due to new issues that may have occurred in the feeding journey. Note: As a RN/IBCLC, I cannot diagnose but can provide support and make referrals as deemed necessary. This service includes a thorough health history of both mother and infant, a full feeding assessment as well as a tailor-made plan to assist with your concerns. This appointment may be right for you if you need extra support to learn the basics of breastfeeding, having difficulty latching or having pain with latching, have concerns about your milk supply, or feeling overwhelmed with your breastfeeding journey so far. This service is tailored to your questions and needs/concerns. Examples may include how and when to begin hand expression (jncluding how/when to collect colostrum before birth), discussion re: breast pumps (types, what to look for, importance of flange fit), learning breastfeeding positions and latching techniques, breastfeeding norms in the early postpartum days, what to expect during your stay in hospital re: infant feeds, alternative feeding methods used in hospital, learning how your current health concerns may affect your breastfeeding experience and how best to prepare, how to better achieve your breastfeeding goals when past experiences did not go as planned, expecting multiples, planning on exclusively pumping or a history of low milk supply. Infant care in the early postpartum period can also be discussed. Handouts and informational pkg provided to go home with as additional resource. Basic Health Assessment includes; Vitals, Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, Spo2% (Oxygen saturation), Respiratory Rate, Temperature, Vision assessment, Height, Weight & Urinalysis. Review of Health History, Allergies, Medications, Immunizations (if required). Extras Can be added on per request; Range of Motion Assessment, Lift assessment, Clearance Forms.
A consult for the postpartum mother who may be struggling with using the breast pump. This may include experiencing pain from pumping, unsure of when to pump, has questions about breast pump types, needs assistance with going back to work and pumping, needing help determining the flange fit that is best for them or having issues with low supply and pumping. Please note this consult is only for pumping. No breastfeeding assessments will be done at this consultation. If you require a breastfeeding assessment, please refer to the Initial Consultation when booking.
