Melanie Whittaker is a Registered Physiotherapist with over 16 years of experience in an orthopaedic clinical setting. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy. Prior to her physiotherapy degree, Melanie earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario.
Melanie has been dedicated to continuing her development of physiotherapy skills and has pursued training in many areas.
She has completed courses in Manual Therapy from the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. Melanie has also completed training in Vestibular Rehabilitation for the management of Dizziness and Balance related disorders.
She has been educated in the Integrated Systems Model (ISM) approach, including craniosacral techniques. Melanie has acupuncture training through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute. She has also completed many other postgraduate courses in Clinical Pilates, manual therapy, myofascial release techniques, neural mobilization, concussion care, functional exercise, and patient management.
Through her years of experience, Melanie has developed skills to successfully treat complex musculoskeletal and dizziness related conditions. She is very passionate about her patients and strives to provide a very high standard of care.
In the past Melanie has had a hands-on, manual approach. This led her to explore further re-focus her efforts on creating individualized programs that patients can complete in their own at home, without the need to attend as many appointments in a clinical setting. Her passion to empower people to take their goals into their own hands, and to structure at times that work with their schedule and lifestyle. Melanie is dedicated to educating patients, empowering them to understand their body to maximize the benefits of therapy.
