I focus on building strong, trusting relationships with each child and family I work with. My approach is based on relational learning, which means that children grow and learn best through safe, supportive relationships. I get to know each child's interests, ways of being, and hopes for what they'd like out of our sessions. These things can be communicated in many ways, but what's wonderful about music is that it is a form of expression that does not need words. In terms of what sessions can look like, some sessions are more structured and focus on specific goals; others are more relaxed and playful. There’s no single “right” way to do music therapy! Music gives kids a way to express themselves, build confidence, and connect with others, and I believe the process we go through together is just as valuable as the music we create.
