Michaela is a registered massage therapist who graduated from a 3200-hour program at Medicine Hat College with a diploma in Massage Therapy as well as a post-diploma certificate in Sports Massage Therapy and has been practicing for over 15 years. She recently completed a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Neuroscience where she investigated the positive impact of touch on the brain for her honours thesis. Michaela is just returning home after completing a Master of Science in Neuropsychology abroad at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland.
Michaela has taken many massage courses outside of college and continues to educate herself on the various ways she can aid her clients. She has over 160 hours of additional training to include visceral manipulation, ethics, therapeutic hot stone, aromatherapy, and myofascial therapy. She has gained experience in various settings to include athletics-oriented therapy with the MHC woman's basketball team, physiotherapy clinics, chiropractic clinics, high-end spas, and clinical experience in an adult inpatient psychiatry ward. After a year of backpacking in Australia and New Zealand, she developed a new understanding of the emotional side to pain and the profound effects it has on people, thanks to various healing mentors she had the opportunity to learn from.
Michaela takes a holistic approach to her clients, addressing and honouring all aspects of the person in order to provide the best treatment possible. She blends the various techniques she has learned and investigates the origin of the client's issues, while empowering clients to take charge of their own health and wellbeing. Michaela loves helping people and feels truly blessed that she is able to do this every day. She has a special interest in working with women's health issues, end of life, seniors, neurodivergence, post surgery/scar tissue, visceral/organ release, emotional distress, migraines, carpal tunnel/nerve entrapment, functional neurological disorders, and sacroiliac (SI)/pelvis issues.
In her spare time, Michaela enjoys learning new things, hiking, reading, cooking, creating art, travelling, playing tabletop games, training longsword in Medieval Armored Combat, and spending time with her partner and cats.
