Nina Tappin, formally known as Nina Leonfellner, has been treating sports injuries since she graduated from McGill University, Canada in 1999. Nina moved to the UK in 2002 to be closer to European & British rock climbing, as well as to be closer to her European heritage. She has a wealth of experience in treating rock climbers, university athletes, and general orthopaedic cases.
Nina is a member of the U.K. ACPSEM (Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sport & Exercise Medicine) and has her Silver level of accreditation. She has been mentored by some of the top physiotherapists in sport in the U.K. She has treated some of Britain’s elite rock climbers, such as Hazel Findlay, Neil Gresham and Tim Emmett. Nina has also treated members of the GB lead climbing, bouldering junior and senior team.
Nina writes articles in Rock & Ice, CLIMB magazine and on UKClimbing website. She also taught “Common Climbing Injuries & Injury Prevention '' Modules to climbers, coaches and instructors at various climbing walls, also on Neil Gresham’s Masterclass Academy Coaching Course.
Nina has a special interest in injury prevention amongst children, females and all sports enthusiasts in sport. She is also interested in advising women who are pregnant, and/or recovering from birth on how to exercise, and climb safely.
Nina has been a dedicated rock climber since 2000. She originally started climbing indoors after graduating from physio school, and soon became addicted to every sort of climbing discipline bar mountaineering! :) Her hardest redpoint is 12b, onsights 11c and E35c Trad in the UK.

First assessment for either early, mid or end stage/return to sport rehabilitation.
Blood flow restriction (BFR) training involves low intensity exercises performed under partial vascular occlusion via an inflatable cuff around the top of the arm and/or thigh. BFR training provides the benefits of high-load training, with the advantage of less tissue and joint stress. Great treatment modality to add to a physiotherapy regime.
Assessment of climbing related finger &/or hand injury (pulley, collateral ligaments, Dupuytren's, joint &/or tendon strains). Prescription of rehab: early, mid or end stage rehabilitation depending on the injury & what stage of healing you present with.
Assessment of climbing related elbow pain. This includes neck, elbow & shoulder girdle assessment, as well as, discussion of training & climbing technique. To be thorough, there is a lot to cover in the first session. A follow up the following week is advised to cover whatever issues not gone over the first assessment.
Assessment of your climbing related physical strengths & weaknesses. How they can help or hinder your climbing performance & flag up any injury risk factors.
Assessment & treatment of climbing related shoulder issues. This involves neck, torso & shoulder assessing, as well as, discussing climbing training & technique.
Coaching on how to use neuromuscular electrical stimulation to help activate atrophied muscles after or during immobilization &/or surgical procedures. You can then use the equipment at home for the time discussed with Nina.
Finger Strength Assessment with a strain gage starting with max strength capacity. 5 sec build to whatever % effort is relevant. Or, up to painful points to help understand safe loading strategies for either mid or late stage rehab phases, or, for safe performance loading.

First assessment for a hamstring injury acute or chronic
First Physiotherapy Assessment for a new injury. This is for one main injury. If there are multiple injuries or body parts to discuss then please book a follow up slot for the following week as well.

Nina usually has strength tests for you to carry out on your own that can not be done in the online session. This will help with the prescription of exercises & rehab plan.
