Raquel graduated from the Masters of Physical Therapy program at University of Alberta in 2012. At U of A she was a student rep of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association while she attended the program. She also graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley with a degree in Kinesiology and worked with the UFV Men’s basketball team as a student athletic trainer for 3 years. Her previous clinical experience and continuing education has provided her with great orthopaedic and musculoskeletal injury management skills for a wide range of injuries and conditions. She enjoys working with individuals of all ages that need help getting back to their previous levels of participation and activity. Raquel also has experience working in the hospital setting in multiple capacities and a wide range of ages. Since completing her Masters, Raquel has actively pursued further education to increase her skill set and add new treatment and assessment techniques. She believes that one-on-one treatment, the integration of manual therapy skills, exercise/stretching, education, and therapeutic modalities, as appropriate, are key for optimal recovery. This most importantly involves client participation. She has completed her Level 2 orthopedic manual therapy certification and she has taken courses in muscle mobilization techniques. Raquel is also fully certified in Intramuscular stimulation (IMS), also called Functional dry needling (FDN) and has taken the Upledger Cranialsacral 1 course. In the future, Raquel plans to continue to pursue advanced education in manual therapy and advanced cranialsacral therapy techniques. Raquel loves sports and currently plays on a Div 1 coed soccer team and in the summer can be seen running, cycling, or behind a boat wakeboarding or water skiing. Raquel also has taught fitness classes at a local gym and enjoys staying active and helping motivate people to get active and reach their physical rehab and fitness goals.
