Rita is our seasoned locum Occupational Therapist and Certified Hand Therapist (CHT). She will be available when our CHTs are away and can meet all your hand therapy and custom splinting needs.
Rita graduated from McMaster University with a degree in Occupational Therapy in 2007. Since graduating, she has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including inpatient hospitals, arthritis outpatient services, private hand clinics, and hospital-based hand clinics.
In 2011, Rita completed a hand therapy fellowship at the prestigious Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center. During her fellowship, she had the opportunity to observe a wide variety of hand surgeries and develop advanced custom splinting skills. In 2013, she earned her Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) credential, demonstrating expertise in splinting, wound care, and the treatment of upper extremity conditions. Rita currently works as a Certified Hand Therapist at a Level 1 trauma hospital in British Columbia.
Teaching is one of Rita's greatest professional passions. In 2011, she helped develop and teach a dynamic splinting module at Thomas Jefferson University. Since 2016, she has served as a clinical lab instructor for the biomechanics module in the Occupational Therapy program at the University of British Columbia. She is also the owner of an educational hand therapy business.
Outside of work, Rita enjoys expanding her culinary skills and continuing to learn Spanish.
