Shy Hofer developed a strong passion for research, rehabilitation, and human performance through her background in Kinesiology. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 2026 with a degree in Human Kinetics with Distinction and has been actively involved in clinical, research, and community health settings throughout her academic journey.
During her undergraduate studies, Shy worked as a Research Assistant, Kinesiology Intern, and Clinical Assistant, where she gained valuable experience in patient-centered care, rehabilitation support, exercise programming, and interdisciplinary healthcare environments. She also developed strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills through her experience in emergency medical response and clinical settings.
Throughout her degree, Shy became highly involved in exercise physiology, rehabilitation science, and clinical assessment. In her Exercise Physiology courses, she gained hands-on experience conducting metabolic and physiological testing, including VO₂ max testing, indirect calorimetry, energy expenditure assessments, etc. These experiences strengthened her understanding of the relationship between exercise, metabolism, recovery, performance, and overall health.
One of Shy’s favourite and most impactful courses was Clinical Exercise Physiology, where she further developed her knowledge in exercise prescription, diagnosis, intervention strategies, and evidence-based rehabilitation programming for both healthy and clinical populations. Through this course, she learned how individualized exercise interventions can support injury rehabilitation, recovery, chronic disease management, and long-term wellness outcomes. This experience reinforced her passion for rehabilitation and the important role movement and exercise play in improving quality of life.
As the clinic’s Kinesiologist and EMS Specialist, Shy delivers individualized Electro Muscular Stimulation (EMS) sessions tailored to each patient’s rehabilitation and wellness goals while prioritizing safety, comfort, and measurable outcomes. She also conducts metabolic assessments to support evidence-informed clinical interventions and personalized care planning.
In addition, Shy performs 3D body scans to assess posture, body composition, alignment, and patient progress throughout treatment. She supports the development and implementation of individualized rehabilitation and wellness programs with ongoing follow-up, progress monitoring, patient education, and interdisciplinary communication.
Shy is passionate about combining evidence-based rehabilitation, exercise science, research, and compassionate patient care to help individuals improve movement, restore function, and build confidence throughout their health and recovery journey.
