Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people heal from difficult or distressing experiences by using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) while recalling memories. This helps the brain reprocess experiences in a way that reduces their emotional charge and makes them easier to manage. For clients working with more complex trauma, or those who prefer a slower pace, 100-minute EMDR sessions are available. These longer appointments allow for deeper processing, additional resourcing, and the opportunity to work through multiple targets or layers of memory within the same session. The extended time helps reduce the likelihood of stopping mid-processing and provides more room for stabilization at the close of session.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people heal from difficult or distressing experiences by using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) while recalling memories. This process allows the brain to reprocess experiences and reduce their emotional intensity. Sessions are scheduled for 75 minutes to allow enough time to settle in, engage in trauma processing, and re-ground before the session ends. A traditional 50-minute appointment often doesn’t provide the space needed to complete a full cycle of EMDR safely. The extended time frame ensures you are not rushed, and you leave the session feeling contained and supported.

In your first session, your therapist will spend some time getting to know you and the issues that brought you into treatment. The therapist will ask questions about your presenting concerns, as well as your history and background. Most likely, you’ll find yourself talking about your current symptoms or struggles, as well saying a bit about your relationships, your interests, your strengths, and your goals. Most importantly, in this first session, you will begin making a connection with your therapist. You should feel safe, accepted, respected, and comfortable.
Emotion basics are at the foundation of parent coaching. Each of the basic emotions are important because they give us information on how to react to different situations. This information will help guide parents to recognize emotions in their children AND know what the child needs in order to move through their emotional experience. Within the EFFT framework, parents and caregivers are taught emotion coaching skills in order to support their loved one’s emotional development and self-esteem. These skills can be used to support a loved one’s ability to regulate his or her own emotions. Parent coaching can repair, foster and strengthen relationships between a caregiver and their child.
