Sophie Kaufman (they/she) graduated from Eastern College’s Massage Therapy program in June 2023, and is a member in good standing with MTANS. Sophie approaches massage therapy treatment from a trauma-informed care lens. She believes in holistic healthcare, for all bodies, from all walks of life. Sophie has worked with clients living with chronic illness, pelvic pain or dysfunction, pre- and post-natal concerns, migraines, stress, anxiety, PTSD, and has a particular interest in supporting 2SLGBTQ+ clients. They have a passion for making people feel safe in a treatment room, especially those who find traditional healthcare settings challenging. She utilizes myofascial techniques, passive stretching, and joint mobilizations to help clients reach their goals. Sophie focuses on somatic healing and the mind-body connection through their treatments. They have completed continuing education in pelvic pain and dysfunction, scar tissue work, and myofascial release. Myofascial techniques focus on intentionally and gently opening up fascia (connective tissue), which connects and surrounds muscles, bones, ligaments, organs, etc, so that the body’s pain receptors get turned down and tissue feels like it has more room to move. This style utilizes ‘deeper tissue’ work over ‘deeper pressure’ work, so it may feel light-medium intensity to start, and can increase in its intensity if the area is more restricted- while still feeling soothing for the nervous system.
In their spare time, Sophie loves to spend time baking, swimming in oceans and lakes, reading graphic novels at her local library, weightlifting, and taking her cat George for walks.
