Hi! I’m Vanessa, a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC, #22109, BCACC) based in the beautiful Lower Mainland of BC. I’m passionate about helping individuals understand themselves and build healthier, more fulfilling lives. I’ve dedicated my career to supporting people in overcoming challenges and achieving personal growth.
I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Simon Fraser University, with a major in Psychology and a minor in Human Development and Counselling. Initially, I planned to pursue a career in business, but my growing interest in Psychology led me to change course. As I approached the final semester of my undergraduate studies, I applied to the Master of Arts in Psychology program at Adler University. My research focused on the impact of social media on adolescent development. However, during that time, I faced a personal challenge that required me to reassess my path regarding completing the research. After careful reflection, I decided to pivot, walk away from completing the research and graduate with a Master of Counselling Psychology, a decision that I believe was integral to my personal and professional growth.
Since 2020, I’ve worked full-time at a special education independent school, providing counselling and support to children and adolescents with diverse mental health and behavioral challenges. I collaborate with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams to help create positive, lasting change.
I draw inspiration from the work of renowned medical professionals and psychologists such as Dr. Gabor Maté, Dr. Bruce Perry, and Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, whose research on trauma, brain development, and resilience has deeply shaped my therapeutic approach. I believe in considering the whole person—looking at not just present struggles but also early experiences, relationships, and environmental factors that shape emotional and psychological well-being.
I take a holistic and trauma-informed approach to counseling, recognizing the deep connections between mental, emotional, and physical health. I utilize evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and attachment-based therapy to help clients develop strategies for personal growth. I am committed to creating a compassionate, non-judgmental space where clients feel safe to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
I specialize in working with individuals to help navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. My work often centers on coping with life transitions, enhancing emotional regulation, and fostering positive social development. I also offer parenting support and work with individuals and families facing relationship challenges.
I’m committed to providing a supportive, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered to take positive steps toward healing and change. If you’re ready to explore your journey and start making meaningful shifts in your life, I’d love to work with you.
