Chiropody

Chiropody treatment focuses on the assessment, treatment, and prevention of foot and lower limb disorders. Chiropodists, also known as podiatrists in some regions, are healthcare professionals specializing in foot care. Their treatments range from addressing common foot conditions like bunions and ingrown toenails to managing more complex issues like plantar fasciitis and foot injuries. Common Chiropody Treatments: Nail care: Chiropodists can trim and treat ingrown toenails, address fungal infections, and manage thickened or deformed nails. Orthotics: Custom foot orthotics, also known as insoles, are often prescribed to help correct biomechanical issues and alleviate pain. Soft tissue surgery: Chiropodists may perform surgical procedures on soft tissues, such as nail surgery, using local anesthesia. Medication: They can prescribe various medications, including oral and topical antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and inject corticosteroids. Wound care: Chiropodists provide care for foot wounds, including ulcers, and collaborate with other healthcare providers for diabetic foot care.

What it is

Most of this follow-up is spent checking what changed since last time and getting on with the treatment itself — hands-on foot care, skin or nail work, padding or offloading, orthotic adjustments, and gait or footwear review — so you leave knowing what was done and what to keep doing between visits.

Usually booked for

  • Ongoing foot care between bigger flare-ups
  • Checking how pads or orthotics are going
  • Nail or skin problems needing repeat care
