Yoga Nidra, often referred to as "Yogic sleep", is a deeply restorative practice that guides practitioners into a state of conscious relaxation. Unlike traditional sleep, Yoga Nidra is a meditative practice where the body is completely at rest, but the mind remains aware and focused. During a session, practitioners typically lie down in a comfortable position (often savasana) while being led through a series of guided instructions that help them progressively relax each part of the body, set a personal intention ( Sankalpa), and move through different layers of consciousness.
