Fire cupping is a treatment technique that places a glass cup on the skin to warm the meridians. Warming the meridians helps to enhance circulation, relieve pain, & extract toxins from the body. Since fire cupping brings blood to the surface and draws out toxins from the body, it may cause temporary marks on the skin called Petechiae, similar to bruises. The marks that appear indicate the condition of the treatment area.
Red mark = moderate blood stagnation
Deep red marks = severe blood stagnation
Dark purple or Deep Red marks with spotting = toxic accumulation
No Redness = Qi & Blood deficiency
Mild Redness (pink-light red) marks = healthy blood circulation
Mark with lots of droplets = excess dampness
