Cervical/Upper Thoracic Spine - Massage Therapy
This gentle and subtle approach consists of joint play, joint mobilizations, oscillations, and a variety of advanced neuromuscular techniques. These techniques are effective at targeting issues that originate in the cervical spine/neck region, such as cervicogenic headaches, or when tight muscles pull vertebrae into a state of misalignment, leading to pain and/or postural dysfunctions.
These tight, anterolateral (front and side) muscles could lead to compression on the brachial plexus (the bundle of nerves above the collarbone which controls movement and sensation of the upper body including the shoulders, arms and hands). When the brachial plexus is compressed by tight muscles it can produce pain, weakness, numbness, tingling or altered sensation and in less common occurrences, paralysis of the arm or hand.
This treatment may be altered in the presence of degenerative disc disease and not indicated for spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, severe scoliosis or suspected aneurysm in the area being treated.
