The use of paraffin wax applied to the skin allows for better blood flow to the skin and muscles below the heat source. This allows an increase in oxygen, nutrients, and blood flow to the area. Other benefits include decrease pain perception due to reduced nerve conduction, muscle tone and spasm due to decreased muscle spindle firing. Paraffin wax also increases collagen tissue, making muscles and joints more flexible with stretching. Finally, paraffin wax offers a great general sense of relaxation with its warming effects.
