###About Bunkola, MSW RSW

Bunkola, as she is affectionately called, is a Nigerian-Canadian who was born in Lagos, Nigeria - West Africa. She relocated to Toronto, Ontario - Canada - with her family at the age of five years old. Bunkola obtained her Bachelors degree from York University in Sociology. She then moved to Edmonton Alberta to complete her Masters in Social Work- Clinical Specialization - from the University of Calgary in 2019. Bunkola has been working as a Mental Health Therapist ever since.

Bunkola is cognizant that therapy is a joint process and encourages the individuals she works with to be the guiding force behind change and healing effort. Bunkola believes the people she is fortunate to see in sessions are experts in their own lives and that they possess latent strengths to combat challenges impacting their mental health. These concerns include the treatment of complex trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, Post-traumatic stress disorder, addiction, low self-esteem, identity, emotional regulation, relationship challenges, and life transitions.

Bunkola is honoured to be an ally of the LGBTQIA2S+, Indigenous & Ethnic communities. Bunkola’s pronouns are she/her/hers.

##Experience

Bunkola has spent one year of her counselling career as a school-based therapist in inner-city, and two years as a therapist serving individuals and families with Children Service involvement. Prior to becoming a mental health therapist, Bunkola worked to support individual and families in crisis intervention, immigration and settlement, and residential group homes.

##Specializations & Modality

Bunkola specializes in supporting individuals with complex trauma, inter-generational trauma, attachment wounds, grief and loss, anxiety, and depression.

Bunkola draws from different modalities such as Attachment-based therapy, Narrative Therapy, Tree of Life, Trauma-Informed Expressive Art Therapy, Play-based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviorual Therapy, just to name a few.

Bunkola is passionate about art and culture as she believes in its healing affect of the mind, body, and spirt. You will often find Bunkola with her family and friends at local community events or site seeing in Jasper or Banff AB. Bunkola enjoys reading, listening to music, walking, as well as she is also an afro-centric natural hair guru.

Free 15-minute phone consultation for existing participant/members. This consultation provides an opportunity for the participant to connect, share what feels important right now, and explore whether additional support aligns with their current needs and goals. The conversation is guided by the participant’s priorities, cultural context, and lived experience, with an emphasis on choice, consent, and collaborative decision‑making. The participant is invited to determine what they would like from the session and how support can best honour their strengths and direction.

The initial parent/guardian consult is required before a session with a teen (12+) can be booked. During the assessment, the clinician will meet with the parent(s)/guardian(s) without the child/teen being present. The clinician will ask for information and background history about the child or teen's present challenges, explore teen and family strengths, identify goals for therapy, and provide some brief psycho-education. The assessment can take anywhere from 1 to 3 sessions. Please inform the therapist the prefered modality: in-person, over video, or the telephone.
