Deanna Lefort is an Occupational Therapist and proud McMaster University graduate. However, her professional background began in education and psychology with her studies at York University where she completed her undergraduate degree in psychology and bachelor degree in education. A large portion of her studies were focused on child development and attachment theory. Additionally, she practiced as an educator with the Toronto District School Board for four years continuing to teach throughout her time in the MscOT program at McMaster University. During her positions as an educator, she worked with students on the spectrum, with learning exceptionalities and students recently diagnosed with ADHD. She believes in engaging children in treatment through play-based learning and engaging caregivers in the treatment planning process to encourage collaboration and true family centered care.
In addition to her professional studies and work in formal education, she also has 10 years of experience in dance education with young children and adolescents (2.5-18 years) with a strong focus on gross motor learning and emotional regulation.
Deanna LeFort is a registered Occupational Therapist with The College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO), and is a member of the The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy (CAOT).

An initial Occupational Therapy Assessment involves an in-depth intake and assessment of the child's development specific to the concerns expressed by the family. This can include, but is not limited to, fine motor, gross motor, motor planning, sensory, feeding, self regulation, self-help, social skills and play skills. Our OTs will discuss assessment results and provide goals and a treatment plan for moving forward. You will be provided with a written summary of the session by email. THE ENHANCED ASSESSMENT INCLUDES A 30 MINUTE VIDEO CALL WITH THE PARENT SOMETIME AFTER THE ASSESSMENT TO REVIEW THE FINDINGS AND GOALS AND ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE STARTING TREATMENT.
Follow-up appointments are usually about 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the need. We will go over the changes that have happened since your last visit, answer any new questions or concerns that you have, as well as go over important milestones to look for during your baby's development. We will teach new comfortable positions to use as your baby grows and becomes more curious. We will also discuss how your breastfeeding relationship can change over time and how you can adjust to your baby's individual temperament and personality. We can strategize as needed if you or your partner is planning to return to work. As your baby develops, we will discuss how to introduce new foods in fun and safe ways, as well as potential allergens.
