Laurel Aasen, RCC
I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (BCACC #13124) with over a decade of experience, and I feel genuinely grateful to do this work.
My specialties are working with individual adults and teenagers living with anxiety and/or experiencing life changes. Below are some descriptions of the clientele and issues I support with:
- Individuals experiencing major life transitions and feel overwhelmed (eg. a move, adjustment to university, change in relationship, new job).

- Have anxiety that interferes with their functioning (eg. Social anxiety, fear, panic attacks, fear, generalized anxiety).
- Live with chronic pain or chronic illness and want support in navigating healthcare options or tools to manage pain.
- Have experienced trauma and are looking for ways to support their nervous system.
- Are wanting support with grief and bereavement.
- Have specific goals but feel stuck in regards to moving forwards (eg. health goals, new entrepreneurs).
- Want space to explore concerns about their relationships, or are going through the end of a relationship.
- Are wanting to explore current patterns of thinking, feeling, relating, and behaving, to create more opportunity for choice in their lives.
- Are educators experiencing burnout and fatigue.
My approach as a counsellor is practical, compassionate, and collaborative, with the goal of helping you reconnect with your life in ways that feel meaningful and sustainable. I draw from evidence-based therapies including CBT, DBT, EMDR, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), always tailoring interventions to your goals and values. I have successfully worked with individuals who identify as neurodivergent.
Integrity, curiosity, and personal autonomy guide my clinical work. Outside of session, I’m a type-B mom to two young kiddos (and a dog-mom to a spirited Jack Russell), a donut connoisseur, and an avid Fleetwood Mac listener. I have an uncanny ability to fail miserably at cooking and pottery, no matter how much I practice. But my memory for lyrics from 90's music is top notch.

When we are anxious or stressed, it's hard to think clearly, express ourselves, or feel connected to others. In this workshop, we’ll explore various ways the body responds to stress, as well as the practice of “Vagal Toning”. You'll walk away with simple tools to help you manage stress, regulate emotions, and build stronger connections with the people around you.
