Hello! My name is Rachel (she/her) and I am a queer, White, cisgender woman of British, Scottish, and Polish ancestry. I am new to the area now called Victoria and live on the stolen lands of the Lək̓ʷəŋən, Songhees, Sc’ianew (Beecher Bay), MÁLEXEȽ (Malahat), and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. I'm a somatic counsellor, which means my primary approach to supporting clients is through the lens of body psychotherapy. I use creative and alternative approaches to therapy as well as evidenced-based practices. These include Culturally Responsive Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, and Brief Solutions Focused Therapy to name a few. In sessions with me, clients can expect to use music, movement, sound, drawing, and talking to approach challenges from multiple angles.
I specialize in working with people who have eating disorders (Binge Eating Disorder, Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder) and disordered eating patterns. Working with me to address eating and body image concerns, whether in individual or group sessions, does not require an eating disorder diagnosis. I also help people navigate burnout, anxiety, perfectionism, ineffective coping skills, stress, and low-self esteem among many other challenges. I can provide hormone and surgical readiness assessments to assist clients on their gender-affirming path.
It is important to me in therapeutic work to acknowledge and explore the interplay of intersecting identities. I have worked with clients who identify as neurodivergent, 2SLGBTQI+, multiracial, and having physical disabilities and/or chronic illness.
When I’m not working, I love to spend time with my family and pets, take walks, attend dance performances and roller derby, do all the crafts, and stick my feet in the ocean.
