AjouterRaye McAvoy has been a nurse for over 11 years, dedicating her entire career to working with and advocating for women and their families. She spent five years as a registered nurse, specializing in women’s health, including high-risk prenatal and postpartum community nursing as well as obstetrical nursing. Raye then pursued her Master’s in Nursing and Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner degree at Queen’s University.

Throughout her career as a Nurse Practitioner, Raye has focused heavily on primary health care, particularly in women’s health. Her expertise includes the diagnosis, management, and monitoring of a variety of conditions, such as menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain, mood disorders, perimenopause, menopause, osteoporosis, insulin resistance, and chronic pain disorders. She has also received additional training in contraception modalities, including subdermal implant and IUD insertions, as well as pelvic organ prolapse management, which includes pessary fitting and pelvic floor function. Raye has a strong interest in sports injuries and joint pain and is trained in intra-articular joint injections to assist in managing various joint pain conditions.
Raye genuinely enjoys getting to know her patients and the stories that have led them to Advanced Women’s Health. She understands the frustrations many women encounter in their health care journeys and is committed to providing a patient, kind, evidence-informed, and holistic approach to their diverse health care needs.
Outside of her work at Advanced Women’s Health, Raye also practices in a busy primary health care clinic in Napanee and teaches in the Nurse Practitioner program at Queen’s University. She is passionate about overall wellness and maintaining a work-life balance despite her demanding career. In her free time, Raye enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and two golden retrievers. As a marathon runner and newly committed ultra-marathoner, she looks forward to working with her patients and setting goals together.

From nutrition and supplemental recommendations, initial breastfeeding support, perineal healing, bloodwork review, mental health support and more, Dr. Heather, ND will will provide you with individualized support so that you have the positive postpartum experience you’ve been wanting! Each appointment is set up specifically to cover some of the various changes you may be experiencing at each stage of your postpartum journey, but additional appointments are always available should you need more support between your scheduled visits! This appointment should be booked within the Second or Third trimester of pregnancy. In this visit together, we will begin the process of creating a postpartum plan together to support your recovery and postpartum journey!

This appointment is to be scheduled within weeks 4-13 of your pregnancy. In this appointment, you will review initial pregnancy support such as nutrition and supplemental optimization, support for early pregnancy symptoms, review of what to expect throughout your pregnancy journey including an overview of appointments and screenings to expect. Dr. Heather, ND will also review recent bloodwork and go through a detailed health history if you are a new patient and have not done so with her already.
This appointment should be scheduled during weeks 34-38 of your pregnancy with your birth partner in attendance. This appointment is designed to prepare partners who will be attending the birth on ways to support their partner through various labouring positions, affirmations, hands on techniques, breathing exercises, acupressure points, and more.
This appointment is to be scheduled with weeks 18-20 of your pregnancy. In this appointment Dr. Heather, ND will support you with present pregnancy symptoms, and discuss ways to continue supporting your movement and nutrition needs throughout your pregnancy. She will review labs with you and discuss what to expect during any upcoming screening tests, such as the gestational diabetes test around week 25 of your pregnancy.
You will have at least two of these appointments during weeks 28-30 and week 32-34 of your pregnancy. In these appointments you will discuss treatments with Dr. Heather to manage later pregnancy symptoms, as well as preparing for labour and delivery. She will also discuss preparations for additional testing in pregnancy such as the GBS test and begin to prepare both a birth and postpartum plan with you. Additional appointments in your third trimester may be scheduled to discuss labour support if you are not also partaking in labour preparation or induction acupuncture with Dr. Heather, ND at this time.
