Your first pelvic physiotherapy assessment includes a thorough discussion to better understand your symptoms and identify your individual concerns and treatment goals. Depending on your therapy goals, treatment can include education, manual therapy and rehabilitative exercise. Internal pelvic exams may also be used as part of your assessment and treatment plan to help treat particular conditions. If an internal pelvic exam is deemed beneficial for treatment, your therapist will discuss the purpose and procedure with you in detail and answer any questions you may have before proceeding with your consent. Please note, an internal assessment is not necessary for treating all pelvic health conditions.

Most of this first physiotherapy visit is spent figuring out what’s driving the problem — history, movement, strength and hands-on testing — then some treatment if there’s time, and you leave with a clearer picture and a plan for what comes next.
